Dr. Mehta's lab received funding from Mattress Recycling Council.  Currently, over 1 million pounds of cotton fibers are recovered from MRC’s mattress recycling operations. Unfortunately, most are landfilled due to a lack of viable end markets. In this project, we are taking the circular economy approach and creating new uses for post-consumer cotton waste from discarded mattresses. She is working with an interdisciplinary team of researchers at WVU on this project. More about this project can be read in this news story.
